The Basic Conditions of Employment Act was passed in 1997 and later amended in2002 by parliament.

The aim of the Act is to advertise by giving effect to fair labour practices.
The basic conditions of employment constitutes the fundamental terms of all contracts of employment, except where any other law or contract conditions is more favourable.
