Survey on child labour

The network Against Child Labour (NACL) was established 10 years ago.
It consists over 50 orgaisations actively working to eliminate child labour in South Africa.
The NACL played a major role in the Global march Against Child Labour three years ago.
It has also worked hard to make sure that the government protects children. It is a right of every child to grow physically and in spirit, to enjoy life. It is the right of every child to be able to go to school to study and become a valuable citizen of our new democracy.

The NACL has helped pass a law in South Africa called the Basic Conditions of Employment Act.
This law says that no child under the age of 15 should work. It also says that children between the ages of 15 and 17 should only do certain kinds of work.

We hope that in publishing this website parents, teachers, and other adults will explain to children that they must wait until they are old enough to go to school and study. They should lead healthy lives.
Employers who use children to do work for them should be reported to the Department of Labour, the police or the local magistrates’ office.
The Network does not believe that children should be abused.

The Network knows that children who work in their homes for their families with the permission of their parents, grow to become good citizens.
