  • Children who are employed in advertising, artistic and cultural activities and who are under the age of 15.     
  • Employers need permission to employ children under the age of 15 in the advertising, artistic and cultural activities.     
  • An employer who has not been granted the required permission, cannot employ children.     
  • The determination does not apply to children who participate in artistic and cultural activities at school; in youth organisations, drama or church societies.

To whom will the permit be granted/ not granted

  • As of 16 August 2004, no child can be employed without obtaining a permit first.
  • Persons under the age of 18 are not allowed to apply for permit.
  • Convicted offenders breaking laws that protect children, employment laws and laws relating to advertising, artistic and cultural activities cannot apply for a permit.
  • The Minister may require further information to process an application.
  • The permit granted must be issued on Form SD 10.2
  • The Minister will decide for how long a permit will be granted
  • The Minister will also specify any conditions relating to the granting of the permit.
  • Any permit that is granted or refused by the Minister must be in writing.
