How to address negative public opinion on street children

The majority of the participants, 96% felt that there should be greater awareness created amongst the public to stem the negative public opinion about children living and working on the streets, 3% were not in favour and 1 % did not answer the question. Of those who responded positively to the need for public awareness, 38% said that both NGOs and the Department of Social Development should be responsible, 32% said the Department of Social Development, 25% said NGOs, 4% did not specify their answer and 1% were in favour of Faith based organisations. One participant commented that "remaining on the streets should be illegal and efforts should be geared towards providing homes for such children".
