  • The salary of the child must be paid to the parent or legal guardian in South African Rands.
  • The daily, weekly, fortnightly, or monthly salary can be in the form of cash, cheque or a direct deposit into a child’s, parent’s or legal guardian’s bank account.
  • The salary payment must be given to the parents or legal guardians of the child in a sealed envelope during the child’s, working hours at the child’s workplace.

    What should be on the pay slip/ statement?

    The pay slip should contain the following information:

     a.  The name and address of the employer.
     b.  The name of the child employee.
     c.  The period for which payment is being made and the amount being paid.
     d.  The number of hours worked by the child in the period specified.
     e.  If the child worked on a public holiday or a Sunday, payment should be       made according to Sections 16and 18 of the Basic Conditions of       Employment Act, which allows for double pay.
     f.   The payment slip should show the payment amount after any deductions       that are made.
