The Department of Labour has announced in July 2001 a recommended minimum wage for domestic workers.
Domestic workers in urban areas should receive at least R600 per month or R3.07 per hour.
In rural the monthly rate recommended is R4.50 or R2.05 per hour.

These wages will still need to be confirmed y the government.
The worker and the employer may agree to a weekly or monthly wage.
Wages may also include transport allowances, food/ meals accommodation etc.
These values must be clearly stated.
The employment contract should finally say what the total wage is.
